PC sales for MW2 in the UK

Post by Infinite » November 19th, 2009, 10:19 pm

http://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/e ... -uk-charts

3 percent of all MW2 games sold in the UK are for the PC. Seemed to be worth posting imo.

Fourzerotwo wrote:Yes, PC is the smallest percentage in terms of how much sold on each platform but that hardly means anything other than the PC is just the smallest market.

The PC version of Modern Warfare 2 has actually outsold the PC version of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare in it's first week. Making it the most successful PC version.

Essentially, all this percentage proves is that the console versions sold great, not that the PC version sold poorly, because that's actually not the case. The PC version has done tremendous in it's first week, better than our previous game.

The PC version has only done better in the first week than for CoD4 because there's been so much hype for the game and many people have had high expectations following CoD4 - that doesn't really tell us anything particularly, nor does it confirm that MW2 is a better game than CoD4.

I would be surprised aswell if MW2 has more total sales than CoD4.

It means nothing.

Even if they HAVE made a massive profit, the profit is not as large as it could of been.
Fuck em, the game is gonna top 2 charts... sales and piracy.

Yes, well, that's why they make it a hype. To sell.
It doesn't really tell us anything. But it tells them they made better record than with cod4 in the first week. That it could have been more won't bother them too much. It would have given a max of 2% extra is my guess. They won't lay awake in bed cause of that.
And indeed, it doesn't confirm the game is better than CoD4. But I'm afraid that hasn't been the question. I actually would believe it when they say they are satisfied the way it is.
KillerSam wrote: It clearly didn't sell as well percentage wise v.s console as MW and it certainly didn't hit their target lol.
It indeed percentage wise didn't sell as good as MW did. But that doesn't say much. That could mean the console market has been growing a lot or the PC market has stagnating. The fact is that there are more sells than with MW, so the console must have a lot more sells which explains the percentage wise difference to IW.
Did they hit their target? We have no clue. If their target was to get more sells than with cod4, they did. But we have no clue what their target was, right?

You are actually right. The profit is not as large as it could have been. But we should stay realistic. The max we could virtually add to the sales if they had dedi servers etc, when we look at it percentage wise, would not have been more than 1 or 2%.
So to make a final decision if the boycott hit them. well.. it's a tough one, but it certainly didn't really hit their wallet, right..
Perhaps their dignity.

The first week's sales have been high because of high expectations.. Now people will see its a shit game, so the sales will probably plumit.

that's one small reason why the sales will plummet :S. I would say at least 99% of all games sell the most games on the day of release, then the sales plummet from that day forth.

Yes, but he means percentage wise, compared to for instance CoD4.
