Shoot servers?

We've (the CJ Team) been having a mini discussion, and the idea of hosting some shoot servers instead of jump servers has come up as a suggestion.

Here are some pros and cons we've come up with, and our opinions are split, so I've decided to make a public post for the community to share their thoughts (after all, it's going to be you guys in the server more than the CJ Team!).

Pros:

"They would get more activity than straight jump servers and with so many jumpers aware and likely to use them for their typical gaming, it would help not only establish a shooting community, but also be great practice for using jumps in actual games."

"Better a bunch of empty shooting servers than half of the jumping servers empty."

Cons:

"is it better to have empty standard servers, than empty servers that promote what we do?"

"I think if we go down the shoot server route it will only serve to piss people off who are trying to jump and we will most likely end up with empty shoot servers from donators who actually wanted to donate a jumping server."

Anyway, please post your thoughts, including gametypes, mods (OW, pam, promod, non-modded), maps etc. or whether or not you just think it's a bad idea.

Whether or not we'll do it and how many servers we'll do it with will depend on (a) if people are interested / like the idea and (b) if some of the server donators are happy to have their servers as shoot servers instead of pure jump servers (obviously we won't force anyone who doesn't want to!).

I think it's a good idea, like you mentioned, good practice for jumping in pubs. Maybe you could run a modified CJ mod.

It would be a good idea, I'd greatly enjoy it.

However, remember that most of people which play on a shoot gameplay perspective dislike "glitching".

I therefore highly doubt we'd be able to populate any codjumping shooting server, as most of people would simply get mad at those jumping people, owning them, and would end up leaving with anger.

Yet, a very few of them, might decide to go on http://www.codjumper.com after having played on those servers, to learn jump tricks, but the vast majority obviously wont.

I'd still enjoy it if you may manage to create a kind of mod which would encourage people to stay and help to populate it, but I've no idea how it would be possible tbh.

I am also quite afraid of those idiots which will do some "no shooting" pact, as they wanna get to X spot then kill the enemy team's players.

Anyway, I suppose the best way would be to give it a try, afterall, what could we lose by doing so?

Just to clarify. We are looking for opinions based on a purely shoot only server, imagine a server simply for shooting but branded by CoDJumper.

I'd imagine it would be like most other shoot servers, but with jumping allowed.

If that's true, then I would suggest 2 servers be used for this. one un-modded server and one promod (and obviously have them in softcore mode!). You could possibly make a mod for those servers (or modify the promod one) to include a banner in the bottom of the screen such as the one on the cj mod, but it may interrupt game play. I have personally had thoughts of suggesting to put a server or two up for shooting on here, but when I had thought about it, we only had 3-4 servers for cod4 at the time. If anything, I believe that this suggestion has come too late because of the upcoming release of MW2. Besides that, this is a great idea .

Nah I think the timing is perfectly fine, we've got well over a month before MW2 comes out, so there's still people who will be playing CoD4 a lot in anticipation of MW2 coming out, and then of course all the people who won't buy MW2. You've also got to consider the possibility that jumping could be rubbish on MW2 like it was on WaW...

Either way, if there were to be a shoot server, it would be upgraded, to a MW2 shoot server...

I'm definitely in favor of having shooting servers, maybe 1 pam 1 promod both softcore... just cause I know I'm getting a little bit tired of just cod4 jumping, and I'm sure CJ ppl would just like a server where they can pug/play

i think there should be shoot server, like promod or something. And tbh i have a feeling jumping will be shit in codmw2 :<

have 2 shoot. 1 with mods, 1 without. The 1 without people can havethe option of jumping in there aswell, bu the with with the mod there not aloud to jump/glitch in (except the1's that are like odviosly easy ofc)

With mods like promod you can't do shit. Only 125 FPS jumps at max I think. That's what he means.

ProMod would probably be the mod of choice.
