you can, it's just that the different image is only slightly brighter lol. I'll edit the picture so it is more obvious when there are new posts

Nah, red would make it look weird, and red is already used for locked forums. Unfortunately I couldn't make the white ones any whiter, so I have made the normal ones dimmer, so now it is obvious which forums have new posts in.
