Need some opinions :o

Post by F |Madness| U » June 22nd, 2009, 2:55 pm

Okay, so basically, my current computer SUCKS. Some of its specs are :

Dell (bleh) DIMENSION DIM4700 Intel (R) Pentium (R) 4 CPU 2.80GHz 2.79GHz, 512Mb of RAM

Graphics card : ATI Radeon X300/X550/X1050 (im guessing mine is just one of them or something - im shit with pcs).

Yeah and focusing on CoD4, with most graphics/resolution/texture etc settings minimal i get around 60fps, 125 looking at sky, NOT GOOD.

Im planning on getting a new Pc, just wondering if these specs would make much of a difference to the graphics/fps, or if I should make any improvements to them etc, any information you can give will be appreciated.

New specs :

~ CPU -Intel Core 2 Duo E7400 (2 x 2.8 GHZ) 1066FSB - 3 MB
~ Motherboard -ASUS P5N-D S/L 1333FSB (NVIDIA 750i)
~ Memory -2GB PC-6400 800 MHZ (1 x 2 GB) (DDR2)
~ Graphics Card -ATI Radeon HD 4870 - 512 MB - 2xDVI/VGA (XFX) (Includes 3D Mark Vantage)
~ Power Supply - 600W PSU

Thanks, mad :)

That would definitely work, although if all you have is a Dell case then I'd suggest getting a new one.

Oh sorry there is a case with it aswell, "Black & Silver ATX Tower Case".

Although that was the cheapest one on the list compatible with the pc, are the cases very important so is it worth getting a slightly more expensive one?

EDIT: Thanks for your opinion aswell, hopefully it will be just fine :)

Not amazing with building PCs, but I'm pretty sure cases aren't very important. Just get one that is good enough to keep dust out but doesn't add too much heat

Yeah, if the case isn't some weird micro atx size small form factor or something it will be fine.

As long as it has at least 3-4 fans included (or you buy 3-4 fans and install them) you should be fine.

No, no it isn't. The case has a large part to play in what you can put inside and what you can cool effectively inside. For example you can't put 3 hard drives in RAID and 3 graphics cards in a case that doesn't support that.
Also in terms of getting things neat inside, a larger case allows much more room to tuck things away and route cables.
Quote after quote after quote is annoying :S

But thanks for all the info seems as if i better look into the type of case in a bit more detail! :)

I know, I hate it when people do that.

Yeah your right, but I have no desire to have 3 graphics cards, or a bunch of hard drives, so I saved some money and got a mid tower, it's a little tight in there, and the cable management is hard, but it suits me fine.
