It's not P2P right?.BlueDamselfly wrote:Looks good, but will you get a lot of virus like limewire ?

Re: Spotify
Spotify is a P2P software, yes. But it doesn't include any types of viruses etc.
I've used Spotify since it came out I think, it's a nice program if you want to find new music, but also to make your playlist where you put all your favourite songs.

Re: Spotify
I've had an account for ages but haven't really used it yet - haven't had the need so far considering there's still loads of music available on the internet and there's always music videos YouTube haven't yet removed.

Re: Spotify
Not available in the US yet, but w.e. If I want to get a song, I'll get it anyways

I have been using this for a long time, I was linked to it by a frequent listener of Radio 1, who announced it way back in February(ish).
Oh, and btw, this ISN'T P2P, it is legal radio broadcasting. Spotify pay the licensing fees for playing the music and they earn their money back with interval adverts (every few songs, adverts come on for about 30 seconds), but the good thing is, this is like a Radio station with your own preference.
Major downsides are music discovery, Last.fm offer 'similar' artists, Spotify can do it, but its not very well done. this is good to simply get all tracks by one artist.

Re: Spotify
“Spotify uses a hybrid p2p system where music is delivered both by our servers and using P2P,†Andres Sehr said. “This allows us to deliver the long tail of music which may not be very popular, as well as quickly serve up the latest hits that the majority of users listen to. P2P allows us to both increase the speed that we deliver music and also lower the cost of streaming it.â€

Re: Spotify
Hmm, after readin it, it is actually a lot more complicated than I first thought.
I will accept it IS technically P2P, but the music is still hosted on a server.
I personally wouldn't consider it P2P, as I am not getting my music off a individual or several peers, but a server. The P2P system improves the speed of delivery and allows users to interact and share, its hardly mainstream P2P. :S
