Custom Maps on servers

Well I read the tutorial on modsonline on how to pack your .iwd but there are a couple of questions I have about it that werent answered in it...
Now zip up the mp_mymapname folder and you are all set
Ok well what do I zip it as? .iwd or .zip. or .rar
for my second question.
Where do these files go on the server? main? Root? ect.
