I put a night skybox in 2, but I think there is more to a dark skybox into making a dark map.

Sounds to me like you are misunderstanding what a skybox actually is.
- Build your map
- When you are ready to test your map do the following.
- Load the sky textures (Textures<Usage<Sky)
- Now select any sky (for now) that starts with "sky_mp_"
- Next, create a huge box that surrounds your map with plenty of room to the sides, bottom and top. Double your map size is always good.
- Now, click "Selection<CSG<Hollow"
- Now, if you are unhappy with the type of sky, change it, but stay in the mp skies.
The skybox has no affect on lighting whatsoever, this is the worldspawn settings, which are expained in the iWiki

Yep, I do now
IW developers have said they use CSG hollow for their skyboxes (and skyboxes only) so, if they use it, i'm pretty sure its safe to use... but only in this circumstance alone!

zomg - ban, ban ban
I do believe that the '6 walls' (4 walls, 1 ceiling and 1 floor) all overlap and thus you get z-fighting (cba to check).
Its all about the mitre!
Yea but the overlapping is very easy to fix.. Its easier to use hollow and fix the overlapping than to make 4 walls 1 ceiling and 1 floor. Just my opinion ^^
