I'm actually playing it right now, and it's quite addicting. It's only $13.40 (or 10 euros), and the goal of the game is to survive. In the day, there are chickens, cows, and pigs outside and it's peaceful, but at night zombies, skeletons, creepers (basically Jihads) , and giant spiders come out to kill you. When the sun comes back, the zombies, creepers, and skeletons catch on fire and the spiders run away back into dark caves. You start out with nothing, and you have to essentially mine the earth for raw materials in order to create items to make whatever you want. Every single time you start a singleplayer world, it is completely randomly generated. I haven't played the multiplayer version yet, but I believe it would be quite fun. There's a lot more to this game, but that's the gist of it. Basically, it's an amazing game for autistic people (like myself ).

Recently the game has had a lot of hype, and a lot more people are learning about the game and buying it. On average, 10k people are buying the game every 24 hours. A week ago, minecraft.net was down for 4 days, along with the update server for the client, and when it came back, 20k people bought the game within 24 hours, that's probably what the article was mentioning in the above post.
