In some ways, yes, it is considered 'cool' to drink. That's not the reason I drink.Drofder2004 wrote:But thats exactly what I am saying, most students and etc, nowadays think being drunk = cool (or whatever). How so?KillerSam wrote:But yea, being drunk = pretty shit
I know many drinkers, but I do not know one valid reason for drinking. I am just on a quest to find one.
The best answers I get are "happiness", because drinking does cause happiness (usually), but often this happiness is only temporary, once you awake realising whats gone on, its often regret.
The reason I drink is because it allows you to enjoy nights more. Obvious, past a certain point of alcohol intake it becomes detrimental (if you're sick etc. then others have to make sure you get home safely and you don't enjoy it yourself). It makes you more talkative, which helps if you're a shy person (I'm a moderately shy person, not to the point where I HAVE to drink to make myself feel fine, I just find it better if I do so).
It's more a social thing really, but it also helps you to dance (I can't walk into a club and dance without having anything to drink, otherwise I knowingly look a fool). If I go into a club, have a reasonable amount to drink and then start dancing then it gets to the point whereby (a) I don't notice my dancing is bad, if it is, and (b) I don't care what other people think.
Sure, I feel crap the following morning, but I'm able to sleep it off. If I felt too bad in the morning then I wouldn't do it every week (or quite often twice per week).

Peds summed it up well I think. But i'm sure smack addicts could justify what they do in a similar fashion so...
Drinking too much last friday led to a bare knuckle "friendly" fight between me and my mate in his living room. I got a black eye, my mate had a nose bleed, black eye, lump on his head and I hurt his elbow with an arm bar that he didn't tap out quick enough too lol.
WE never would of found ourselves in that situation sober, but it was fun. So beer = good.

The absinthe I bought was Hapsburg 69 red absinthe, 68%, 50cl.
It's priced at £31.59 here, which is slightly cheaper than I bought it, so it was hardly a 'rip off'.
And again, just under £30 here.
Some people pay ridiculous prices for bottles of wine, or champagne, or whisky. I don't call them 'addicts' when they do so, so I don't see how this makes me an addict. Yes, I'm 19, but that shouldn't make any difference. I don't buy it frequently, in fact, this is the first time I've bought an 'expensive' bottle as such, and I don't plan on doing it again for a long period of time.

See, I've never been in a fight in my entire life. Sure, it turns me more agressive than I would perhaps usually be, but I don't start on people etc.Neon wrote:Peds summed it up well I think. But i'm sure smack addicts could justify what they do in a similar fashion so...

I was expecting al the replies above, about how drinks help improve the night and mood etc.
If you are unable to have a good night without drink, then I do not think the booze is your problem...
It is indeed a culture thing, my honest opinion is a lot of people are "sheeps" to the alcohol scene.
And don't think I am judging anyone, or that I wish to "change the world" so to speak, it has just been something I have always wondered, and still to this day I don't think a viable answer has turned up...

I have tried it, most times it actually ruined the occasion.
Infact my hatred of alcohol is actually fairly close.
Many of my family members are (and in one case WAS) an alcoholic. I have seen what it can do to people, and most of those people I have seen things happen to, still continue to drink.
Most "domestic" fights and arguments are often the result of alcohol.
A lot of deaths are caused by "social drinking" every year, and those people would not be considered alcoholics.
Most road accidents are caused by drink.
After seeing all the negative sides, it just makes me wonder why people still feel the need to drink, to socialise.
Or if you would prefer, substitute need with prefer, where preference is always "to drink".

I dont 'need' to drink, I actually stopped hanging out with my friends from my hometown, because I thought they drank too much and making drinking feel a must. Now I go out with my classmates etc.
I also never got in fights due to alcohol. I dont know anyone close who is an alcoholic, or atleast is not an alchoholic in my view.
I used to drink a lot (being drunk every weekend), but didnt fancy it. Now I drink in moderate quantities, which will make socialising more fun.
About drunk driving, im with u on that, however I never drive when I drank.

You were expecting them because they are correct.Drofder2004 wrote:I was expecting al the replies above, about how drinks help improve the night and mood etc.

I'm able to have a good night without a drink, what's wrong with increasing my enjoyment further? Personally, I'm not doing any harm to myself (sure, there are minimal effects on my body, but they won't be serious as I don't drink huge amounts and as I get older I'll do it less and less as I go out less frequently) or anyone around me. I don't drive and I don't turn agressive.
I don't require them to have a good time, they just make it even better. I wouldn't compare them with drugs. Drugs are known to have a long lasting effect on people's health and are illegal. Sure, alcohol does have some downsides, but not as many as drugs imo.KillerSam wrote:I agree with drofder to be honest, my stance is the same with drugs as it is alcohol, I don't require them to have a good / enhanced time. If your personality is so poor that you require to be 'out of control' in some way of form, then you need help.
I totally agree.aicaramba wrote:No one says we need alcohol to have a good time, it just gives u a slightly better time.
Saying u dont drink because u dont need alchohol to have a good time mostly is an agrument used by ppl who havent really tried it yet.
You tried it and it didn't work out for you, that's your opinion. That doesn't make it a bad thing. I hate marmite but other people like it, if I have some then it would 'ruin the occasion' - does that make it a bag thing? No.Drofder2004 wrote:I have tried it, most times it actually ruined the occasion.

Yes, I would substitute 'need' with 'prefer'. Sure, some people 'need' alcohol to have a good time. I don't, I just consume it because it makes good times even better and has minimal disadvantages.

That's standard nowadays. You see it a lot.Neon wrote:I think anyone who drinks and drive, shouldn't be allowed to drink. Discraceful putting other peoples lives at risk.
One of my clanmembers got hit by a drunk driver. In his car were his GF, his few weeks old baby and some passengers. It was on Christmas day. He landed in the hospital (Out now).
Now that's what I don't understand... Why bloody drink when you KNOW you're going to have to drive.
