It's sad to hear something like that, although it does make me wonder why you would still consider drinking.
Maybe I am just seeing from misty goggles or something, but I have always lived by the rules of learning from mistakes, be them mine or by someone else.

I grew to love the taste of milk, now I cannot stand the stuff.

Why bother wasting your money on slowly getting that 'feel', for less money and time you can get the same buzz.
Go sniff these...

What's growing to like and dislike milk got to do with it? Yes, I like the taste of beer and perhaps I'll end up not liking the taste in the future, but while I like the taste of it I'll drink it.

Why grow to like something when there are plenty of things that you can naturally like (like soft drinks)?
I like soft drinks too and drink them very frequently. The taste of beer is considerably different to the taste of soft drinks, however, so it's not as though one is a replacement for the other - I have both of them in my life and am happier for the experience.
The way I see it, as long as you don't drink to such an extent that you're doing SERIOUS damage to your body, and as long as it doesn't affect you excessively negatively in a psychological way (i.e. beating family members, drink driving), then it's OK. So far, I've been able to enjoy it with none of the negatives I just stated and which seem to be the main arguments for people against alcohol consumption. I don't disagree that there are health issues with it, but as with most things it's a calculated, sober decision I make to enjoy a certain amount of alcohol in exchange for a certain amount of damage to my health.
When you play football, you play it because you enjoy it and the enjoyment overpowers the risk of injury. When people do tricks on skateboards they're aware of the risks involved if you fall off, but they still do it because they enjoy it and deem the benefits to be greater than the potential risks. In general, I view my alcohol consumption in the same light - if it gets to the point where I'm doing significant damage to my health or others around me, then I'll reconsider, but as it stands my alcohol consumption isn't doing anyone harm apart from myself (and even that is minor, I would say).
