Why? The background music is a simple beat, the best that you might ever hear of this "genre" will easily be outclassed by techno or something similar (see above). While it is not old, it is definitely not new. Not only has it been done countless times before, but I don't have a doubt in my mind that that exact same beat has been used before (and for that matter probably almost identical lyrics). There is no perfection in this at all, in fact there isn't even singing. The "artist" is talking in a cool tone to a rhythm, there is hardly even a change in the notes. Lastly, anybody could do this if they tried at all. The only difference between this asshole who has millions of dollars and the next shit rapper who has nothing is that one lucky break that gives way to fame. After all, the ignorant masses always need at least one idiotic idol to follow.

I'm not saying you shouldn't listen to rap, or that it is bad for what it is. But what it is is an embarrassment to music. To associate with music is a crime to the artistic nature of song which we have built over thousands of years. If you have to listen to the crap, listen to it recognizing it is talentless garbage and please, for the love of God, don't buy anything from these jerks.

*When I searched Yo Yo Ma on youtube and changed sort type to most viewed, I almost literally cried.
I actually happen to like that song. I don't think it's one of the best rap songs by any means, but it's still a good song and half of it is knowing the story behind it. 2Pac was shot in a lobby, thought it was one of his friends who set him up, his friend then released a song called "Who shot ya?" which was apparantly unrelated to the incident, and this is 2Pac's reponse. When you know all the meaning behind it it makes it more interesting to listen to.

It's all well and good you picking potentially bad music... I don't disagree that A LOT of rap is very poor, but that doesn't mean there aren't good, entertaining rap songs.

This was the first main song that got me into rap music, and I'm glad I got to see them live before they split up.

This is another song I like a lot, and I know you'll think it's all bitches, money and crime etc., which I don't doubt, but the melody and beat are great in my opinion:

One final rap song which I like a lot:

Yes, perhaps it's only 'brilliant' because of Dido's part in it, but the contrast is what makes it - if it was just her singing then it would sound like another standard Dido song.

Btw Peds, Who Shot Ya was done by B.I.G. I know that because I spent one night watching 8 Mile, Get Rich Or Die Trying, and Notorious, I really liked Notorious, didn't like 8 Mile, the 50 Cent one was ok.

Jeej, a talent topic.. How about this one:
This guy is so coked and liquired up (not too long after this he had a breakdown from drugs which nearly killed him). Yet the feeling he puts into his music in unmatches. No need to to play fast, just being abled to play the right notes, all by feeling, not by a song he plays the same every time he plays it, nope, all improvised.
Lately I'm totally addicted to this guy, even started playing guitar myself, watched tons of clips on youtube, got a couple of live dvd's of him. Not just his guitar play, but also his voice just strikes me (no singing is this song though :P). Also his life story is quite impressive (and rather sad tbh).

@ soviet, this guy used to live in dallas ^^

There's no doubt that Stevie Ray Vaughn is the greatest guitar player. The absolute lowest spot he could be on the list of the greatest guitar players ever would be third. Joni Hendrix is also amazing, and probably only one or two below him. I dare anyone to post a guitar player that they think is better then them.
that's a nice pic and all, but out of all the pictures you could have taken why'd you take a picture of a plant? :P

Because plants have some really small details. If a plant comes out nice in a photo, you have yourself a good camera ;)

I think u mean jimi hendrix... instead of joni ;)
Jimi hendrix is amazing too, but on his live performances he tended to making funny noises with his guitar rather then playing the songs..
About the best guitar players. Hard thing to say. There probably are guitarist who play a lot faster and more impressive, but dont really move me. Guitar skill has got to do with preference a lot. I think zaitsev can come up with a (in his eyes) better guitarist, even though I wont agree :P

about music, the eurovision songfestival is on now (pathetic tbh). There was one band who wanted to play live, but werent allowed by eurovision rules.. So basicly, they make a great show, with mostly not so original music, with a lot of dance, lightshow, costume etc.. But the music part of the SONG festival is not allowed... Little bit twisted imo.

Oh ye, the blond guy of the dutch contenders performed in my hometown 2 months ago and beer was thrown over him, then he walked away.. Kinda awesome, was standing like 20 m from the stage :P

I don't have much appreciation for "talented" music. The only thing in music I look for, or rather listen for, is how well the music sounds to me, and if it flows nicely, then I consider it a good song. There are a few rap songs which I like, such as:

(I just noticed. Click on that video and click on more info and you'll notice something funny)

and there are some other songs that I like such as:

and as for this:

I said it was depressing because an incredibly talented man like this plays for just enough food to get by on the streets while untalented, pompous rappers sit in their mansions counting their millions. When I see that video, it reminds me that we live in a greedy, capitalistic society ruled by the idiotic masses, while the brilliant and interesting individuals are shoved to the bottom and buried beneath the majority's timeless ignorance. Rational enough for you?
I found that video and felt like using it on something even though your post wasn't dumb at all.

Btw, Stevie Ray Vaughn IS the guitar player that Zaitsev posted, an I do think he is better than Jimi Hendrix , but not by that much (yes Jimi, not Joni, I was typing on my iPod touch :P ).

The reason they are the best is because they are amzing at expressing themselves through their guitars, you can feel the emotions they are feeling. This is obviously augmented by the amount of drugs they took. Jimi Hendrix used to cut a slit in his forhead, soak his headband in heroin, and wear it when performing to give him a constant high. Other guitar players might sound good, but they are in no way as talented as these two. Other guitarists play well known riffs, and they're too mechanic. Think of it this way, it takes skill to draw a picture and make it look good, but it doesn't take nearly as much skill to trace that picture and make it look good. It's perfectly fine to like a different guitarist better though, because they might sound good to you, but in terms of who is the most talented, Hendrix and SRV are at the top.
