Good to hear, although it's odd that L4D is laggy when WaW isn't. From my knowledge L4D requires significantly less processing power to run efficiently.

RAM is a very specific thing, you need a specific generation and speed. Figure out what your motherboard supports (either post your motherboard model or current RAM model) and we can find you some easily. I would suggest getting 2 gig, at most it will probably cost about $50.

If the manufacturer is dell then post the model of your PC. Dell should have all the information you will need, but don't go buying RAM until you're sure which type you need, otherwise you'll probably be wasting money.

Well, i suggest buying DDR2 PC6400 Memory Modules as they are:
- Cheap
- Rather Fast
- Most common

I'm for 100% sure DDR2 PC6400 memory fits on your motherboard.
For even better results i suggest removing the old memory module and maybe buy 3GB (Don't go beyond that if you're running on XP), because the memory you want to buy is Dual Channel, and it will work much faster without a other type of memory. Even if you buy 2 GB memory, and you keep your old 512 also, your PC will still be faster without the 512.

Installing memory is rather simple.
Quick explanation:
- Unplug EVERYTHING from your PC (ESPECIALLY THE POWER CABLE!)
- Open up your case
- I guess you know how a motherboard looks like, if not: It's the big green circuit where all your components are plugged on/in
- You'll see (probably) 4 slots, where 1 or 2 are taken already by memory modules.
- When you have your new memory, push the clips of the memory sockets (the part where you're gonna plug your memory in) out (most of the time at both ends there are white clips, just push them down)
- Take out your memory modules and place them gently in the socket (Don't worry, you can only put them in on the right way). After they are in the right position, push them down so the clips automatically click back up.
- Voila, you upgraded your pc.

And if you don't know how memory looks like:
OCZ DDR2 PC6400 4GB

This is just one kind of memory, they can have all colours and looks, but now you have an intention of how they look like.
(Don't flame me if this is too "childish", but as i was reading his posts, it looks like he doesn't have that much PC knowledge, so this is just to help)

You could also buy memory at a PC Hardware shop. Just ask them for DDR2 PC6400 2GB, and they will understand what you mean.

Good luck upgrading your PC

32bit only supports 3gb regardless of operating system. I found that out the hard way. You really don't need more than 2gb with today's games though.

Yea I was thinking i really dont need 4 gigs all i need is 2.

I have this extra 320gb hdd and i plug it all in correctly and it doesnt detect it. i tried on BIOS to do auto detect. i checked somewhere on system hardware and cant get it to connect. The only thing wrong with it on the outside is taht the sata port on it... the little black part above/under depending which way u look at it is broken off due to my dad. its never been used b4 and i got it 2 years ago does anyone know how i could have it work?

Hmm, your BIOS should detect it if you connect it properly. The problem with forums is we can only help with text and some pictures (sometimes movies), it's so much faster if somebody could just look at it but well...

About the Memory:
Just like the other guys said, 32-Bits only support up to 3GB and that's more then enough for XP since XP doesn't require that much memory. And most games doesn't even use the full 3GB. Alltough, if your using 64-Bits, it couldn't be bad to take 4 GB, since you'll notice the difference.

About the HD:
It could come in handy if you could supply us with the type/model of your HDD. Also, you could check for a BIOS update, but that's a little more complicated then just an install package.

So if you could give us the model/type of your HDD, i/we could check if there are more problems with these types of Hard Drives, and maybe we could find the solution for you
