There are several possibilities
1. Faulty PSU as you suggested
2. Overheating, do extensive temperature monitoring while your computer is under strsss
3. When your PSU blew up it affected other components inside your computer as well. This isn't very likely, but is possible.

is the PSU may to weak for your system? When mine blew up it has too little Watts(it was 350 Watts now i have a 600W one)
The worst think you can do is if the PC turn off and you turn it on instantly. Thats too much for the PSU and it overheat
