Accidentally fucked up my router

Post by Pedsdude » November 26th, 2008, 12:42 am

Right, here's what's happened:

I was trying to disable internet for one of my housemates by disabling certain ports (1 to 65534) to him. Unfortunately, it appears to have done it for everyone who accesses the network, including myself, which means that I'm now unable to access the router admin panel and fix it.

Any ideas?

ASAP!

there should be a reset button your router, press that. If not, idk :D. You probably already thought of this, but i have a story to go along with this. One my dad spent a few hours trying to get a generator to work while we were hunting in the woods. he spent hours checking the gas, the wires, etc. and he found nothing wrong. I finally took a look at it because he was out of ideas and i literally said "did you try the on switch?" as a joke. Ofc, my dad found the on switch, turned it on, and pull the start pull thing (w.e its called) and it worked like it should've. So, moral of the story = check the basics first.

You are a muppet. True story. :D Hope my reset instructions work - and if you want to disable someone's internet connection, just enable MAC address filtering on the router and boot them off so you can play online! (or just pull the plug if they're wired in).

If you have Linux and aircrack-ng, you can be particularly anti-social and spam them with deauth packets, but that's for another time.......

Yep, I came here and registered just to take the mickey :P

Well, after a load of panicking and searching around, it's fixed.

It does have a reset button, and obviously I did try it, but it turned out I needed to hold it for 30 seconds to fully reset the router as opposed to just restarting it. I then had to connect to it through a wire, and then enable wireless.

Indeed, although I would have to trapse wires all across my house, and there's 3 floors so it would be a pain in the arse.

It's a pain in the ass wiring a one floor house, stick with wireless. Unless you have a new house with ethernet jacks in certain rooms.

Yeah, rooms like that are fantastic. No more drilling holes through floors

Disable ALL of his ports?

Why not just ban his MAC from the network?

Start downloading shit loads? She'll whine that she can't, then explain to her you'll stop if she reserves her downloads until no one else is on the net?

That's what I do in my house :) it's funny when you've got 5 people trying to use the same connection and you want all the bandwidth :)
