Some cultures have naming traditions where the baby is named after a characteristic or events during pregnancy. "Goodluck Jonathan" was called that because his father thought he was lucky.
Naming traditions are strange in many places for example Ghanaian "Kofi Atta Annan" - this name literally means "boy born on Friday, as a twin and fourth child".
Even us Europeans do it, 'Daniel' originally meant "God is my judge" in Hebrew, although not quite the same and not literal.
