Time for a new setup!

Post by Drofder2004 » December 28th, 2010, 7:35 pm

Well, my Graphics card has just decided to arrange its own funeral, so its time for a new setup (or upgraded)

Currently:
- Asus P5KC Intel P35 DDR2/DDR3 Socket 775 Motherboard
- Core2Duo E8400 @ 3.00GHz
- 4Gb Ram (Cannot remember exact)
- Geforce 9800GT
- Antec 900 Case

I have no need to upgrade any drives or the case.
Ideas people?!

Code: Select all

My idea:
Corsair XMS3 6GB (3x2GB) DDR3 PC3-10666C9 1333MHz Triple Channel
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-265-CS
£88.99 inc VAT

MSI GeForce GTX 460 Cyclone 1024MB GDDR5 PCI-E
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-092-MS
£149.99 inc VAT

Asus P7P55D-E Intel P55 (Socket 1156) DDR3 (MB)
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-389-AS
£98.11 inc VAT

Intel Core i7 860 2.80GHz (Nehalem) (Socket LGA1156)
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CP-298-IN
£217.36 inc VAT

Total ~£555.

Budget is variable, but £500 area is tops (CPU / GPU / Memory / Motherboard)
I want to achieve a good working/gaming computer?

Updating original post with a list of items, I cobbled together using some very little research (Tom's Hardware :P)

I don't see much of a difference between the i7 860 that you posted and the i5 760 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... -_-Product) and it's about £87.5 cheaper.

The mobo could be a little bit cheaper if you want to save some money. I recently got something similar to http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... -_-Product and it worked great.

I don't see too much of a need for 6gb of ram, and I believe it's better to have exponential increments of 2 (1 gb, 2gb, 4gb, 8gb, etc), but I don't really know too much about that :S. I would go for something such as http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... -_-Product and it's cheaper as well.

the video card is good.

I hope this helps :P.

I believe the cooling I use is: http://www.coolermaster.com/product.php?product_id=6603
Would have to check exact model, but that certainly looks like it.
