Problem with xmodel_export converting :(
Hey guys.
I tryed to import the portal gun from portal into cod4.
So I read some tutorials and stuff.
Its all fine till I try to convert it to an real xmodel.
here a picture:
1. I converted the portalgun from "w_portalgun.mdl" to "weapon_pgun.OBJ"
2. I opened it in maya and made the color of the model white.
3. I exported it as a .OBJ again and used "xmodel_Creator_v0.6".
4. Then I was going to set up the material and all worked fine. I can convert the Material w/o any errors.
5. After that I tryed to convert the xmodel_export to an xmodel but i got that error and I dont know why.
Could anyone help me with that?

I think Dan has the model ezported with skins already, its hidden away in the portal map

I know that he did that and i saw it on mp_portal.
he also made a real portal mod for cod4 ... but he wont send it to anyone / or he doesnt have it anymore.
so drofder. How can i make that xmodel to a weapon now so i can pick it up and stuff ?

You have to add tags to the weapon in maya so you can make it usuable for players. Check Modsonline or Iwnation Moddeling part, there is most likely some tutorials.

As said, you need to do all the structures and tags, and animations... for the benefit of seeing it in a players hands, I think you can just modify a weapon file and change the models...R4d0xZz wrote:I know that he did that and i saw it on mp_portal.

But I have never done modelling/skinning/anims/imprting or anything close...

In all IW scenes they did in Maya, Z is up. Check your orientation in Maya. You need tags so the game engine will know where to place your gun in relation to the viewsleeves.

Very cool. About the textures: the name of the material in Maya needs to MATCH the material name in AssMan, otherwise it will report it not found.

yea liam told me about uv mapping ... just watched 20 secs. of a tutorial and now it looks like this <3

i got some basic script too but ... it does not work so could somebody check that script because im not soo good at scripting
