Honestly, how hard is it for a 4th official to take 3 seconds to watch the replay and award the goal?
I can understand when a few millimetres are in question, but yards?

Indeed- I believe there is some rule where once the decision has been made it cannot be changed (not 100% sure as I'm not a football fan). Normally a replay is shown to the TV viewers within about 5 seconds, so they really should just check the replay and award the correct decision if it's that obvious. In tennis they already do something similar, and that is within much more precision than needed in (most) football scenarios.

The referee can change the decision at the time, but afterwards he can't.

Agreed, they should do something to stop things like this from happening. In European games (Champions League, Europa League, EURO 2012, etc.) they have an official alongside each goal to have a closer view of whether it crosses the line, or other decisions where they have a better view than the linesman.

The biggest problem with introducing replay assistance is that once it is used in one part of the game (goals) then it will get introduced elsewhere - slowing the game.
However, situations like this needs to be removed from the game...

I was going to post that, but you've beaten me to it! I watched that live in the pub, couldn't believe my eyes! It shouldn't have been a penalty, so I was so happy for Watford :)

From the first leg, a very nice goal:

Old law = offside
New law = interpretation

It is in the eyes of the official to determine if he is interfering with play, I personally think it is not offside but you have 3 players in an offside position in front of the goalkeeper, but how much of a distraction are they to the goalkeeper considering the direction of the shot. Its a tough call, but this is why the offside rule being changed on a weekly basis has bad outcomes.
