low fps with gtx 260

ok i got a gtx 260 last month for my pc and when i goto settings in cod4 and turn everything on low to glitch in matches i dont
get nowhere good the fps i should get i get like 130 on low but sometimes when i play on high i get constant 250 any ideas why. Im not that smart with these things. i thought i would get more fps on low? any help will be apreciated thanks.

If you're playing on a high res, change it to the lowest and see if that helps.

Well basicaly, something in your comp should bottleneck it, which make you unable to fully use it and have a nice amout of fps. Fps aren't only about graphic card, they're also about computer itself.

You probably get 250 on some places with high while you get 130 on some other with low simply because of the map layout.
(E.g. you'll obviously get less fps near that bloc's pool, or somewhere in overgrown, than in shipment. )

As Jdogg said, reducing res should really help, also, you may want to join a server closer to your location, since you'll have less ping, your fps will be really improved.

The 260 gtx is designed to perform better at higher resolutions. Unless you aren't changing resolutions when you switch from low to high, there shouldn't be a reason as to why you get more fps on higher settings than on lower settings.
