Graphics Card Comparison

Post by Soviet » April 8th, 2006, 2:09 pm

first, sorry if i put this in the wrong forum - not sure where it goes.

right now i am looking at buying This video card. For those of you who are too lazy to look at it it is a eVGA Geforce 7600gt 256mb PCI-E x16 video card for $189. Now, it is not a 7800 like i was planning on getting but that deal expired. So i went into some research and here is what i have established

Statistics for eVGA 7600gt PCI-E x16

Performance
NVIDIA GeForce 7600 GT
+(90) 580 MHz GPU
-(8 ) 12 Pixel Pipelines
400 MHz RAMDAC

Memory
256 MB, 128 bit DDR3
+(400) 1500 MHz (effective)
-(11.5) 24.0 GB/s Memory Bandwidth

Interface
PCI-E 16X
DVI-I, DVI-I, HDTV-7
SLI Capable

Resolution & Refresh
240 Hz Max Refresh Rate
2048 x 1536 x 32bit x85Hz Max Analog
2048 x 1536 / 1600 x 1200 Max Digital

Requirements
Minimum of a 350 Watt power supply.
(Minimum recommended power supply with +12 Volt current rating of 18 Amp Amps.)
Minimum 400 Watt for SLI mode system.
(Minimum recommended power supply with +12 Volt current rating of 24 Amp Amps.)

The numbers in bold are statistics of comparison. Plus means more than 7800, minus means less than 7800 and numbers in ()s mean the amount by which it is more or less.

So as you can see i have less pixel pipelines and much less memory bandwidth, but i also have more overall speed with 7600gt.

Now my question is, are these details signifigant, and would you recommend me buying this 7600gt for the good deal, or wait to get a 7800gt?

Those specs look nice to me, all those things are good.

But! Notice the power requirement at the bottom. That means you would have to add those power supplies to your computter if you dont already have them. (http://www.newegg.com/ProductSort/Categ ... ategory=32)

The prices seems good to. I say "go ahead with the deal" :P

it should say on the metal case of the power supply.

Did you build your comp or did you buy a prefab one,

if you bought a prefab then it should say on the box of the whole comp or on their website.

If you built your own comp, then look around in all your boxes for the power supply box, if you threw it away, just look up the name on the company's website.

There are your 4 choices :P
