Overlapping brushes / textures

I have a question. How can I make textures overlap like this picture: (taken from neuville)

Look at the point I'm aiming on. You see the sand and the rocky ground, it's overlapping really great. Can someone explain me how they did that ?

Hmm it's not working for me, I used a tutorial from MODSonline.com, but it just cuts off parts of the terrain from the selected terrain mesh. :?

i had trouble with it too.
this tutorial helped me alot but you gotta register on the site for the download :|
