Electronic Arts officially announced its promise reboot of the Medal of Honor franchise today, revealing that the long-running series is finally leaving World War II behind.
Instead, the new title--simply referred to as Medal of Honor--will take players to "war-torn Afghanistan," with Electronic Arts promising a "best-in-class single-player campaign" inspired by "real events" and crafted with the help of the US Special Operations Community's Tier 1 Operators "to create the most authentic modern war experience."
Medal of Honor will hit PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in 2010, with EA Los Angeles handling the single-player and the Battlefield veterans at EA DICE on multiplayer.
"EA has always been an advocate for telling the soldiers' story. The new Medal of Honor follows that tradition. We felt it was important to tell the story of today's war and today's elite soldiers via today's most relevant medium--videogames," said Sean Decker, VP and General Manager of EALA. "We are so proud to bring together two powerhouse development teams to make this game a reality; EA Los Angeles and EA DICE. Medal of Honor promises to be an unforgettable entry in the modern shooter genre."
I hope this turns out to be well. Remember the very early Medal of Honor games on the PS and such ? One man army for the win! Bit unrealistic untill CoD showed how it was done.
MoH and SH are probably still one of the best games I have ever played. BT was kind of a let down. It simply wasn't as good as the previous expansion. Although the new guns added in that expansion were pretty cool. Not really familiar with Italian weapons.

MoH has been pretty poor in the last three (I think) of their games, a total change in genre is as big a potential fail as ever... good luck

I doubt they'll be using the current (or even CoD4) style engine. Since they're so keen on starting with a fresh slate, they may use an entirely new (or at least not Quake based) engine, which could even obsolete strafe jumping. That and there's a good chance the game will suck.
I can't remember if original MoH had strafejumps, but it did had nadejumps. And jumping on MoH was shitloads of fun. It even had stacking in the early days although it got patched, and was a lot easier than on CoD4.
Always fun to jump on Destroyed Village or Southern France. Damnit I miss the classic AA maps, some of those were too awesome. I remember playing Destroyed Village and V2 Rocket Facility on CoD2 as custom maps which we had running on our servers.

Yeah, my first WW2 FPS game was MOH:AA, and I loved it. So many good jumps to be had, and (reluctantly) I loved sharking
