[COD2] Unreal Wasteland DEMO - release

Post by floater » November 16th, 2007, 9:28 pm

Unreal Wasteland is my 1st jump map which I started making in beginning of 2007. Here's the official demo version. The final version is almost ready but I have to portal it and fix several errors.

About Unreal Wasteland:
Considered one of the best jump maps for cod2, it is for sure the biggest - it is about 35 mb and it has 1 hour gameplay time.
Includes lots of custom textures and sounds, high quality background music, lots of special effects and scripts, unique gameplay, more than 15 different types of jumps.
It has an original story invented by me :)
It is devided into 4 parts, each with its own gameplay. The parts are:
-The Abandoned Mine
-The Temple
-The Grand Canyon
-The Forsaken City
You won't be able to finish it only with jumping, you have to complete different puzzles and quests to pass.
special features:
jumping with a parachute
driving a boat
crouch gaps
multiple ways to pass (if you get stuck on a jump just take another way)
It has 2 versions - easy and hard. The easy is for beginner jumpers and the hard one is the real challenge. The hard version contains not only bigger jump gaps but also more tricky jumps.

About the demo:
Demo is like beta version (if someone thought it is a .dm_1 file) , it is a normal .iwd
The demo includes the 1st and the 2nd part of the whole map.
Its normal gameplay time is about 30 min so it can be played as a normal jump map too.
It is portalled (even the outside parts) so expect very high fps.
The demo has only easy version.

How to install:
I created an instalation setup so you just have to start the setup.exe and go through the instalation process. Don't forget to select your cod2/main folder when asked where to install the file. A bonus file, containig info & screenshots, will be installed in your main folder, too.

Link for the demo: http://rapidshare.com/files/70194909/Un ... oSetup.exe

For any questions you can contact me on xfire: shif7

Enjoy!

PS Codjumper.com can put it on their servers untill the final version is released :)

for sure :D
even the demo is bigger size than the whole svt_stronghold
and you'll need twice the time for svt to pass the whole map
The testers records of the whole map (easy version) are about 40 - 44 minutes :D

EXE = No!

Get this reuploaded as a compressed files, no one, trustworthy or not should use installers in exe format to install something which is easily installed manually..

Well, thats usually why we don't download EXE files from strangers, I prefer my downloads to come 'bonus' free.

Intentionally, no, accidentally, I'd rather be safe than sorry.

Viruses on computers will automatically latch themselves to exe files, if you have a virus, then potentially, the setup.exe has the virus attached.

Me too, but never trust your virus protection to protect you from everything, as that is impossible.

I will test the map soon. Not sure I will enjoy the prmoised hour long playtime (I haveother things to be doing), but If it starts getting a little slow, I will noclip through it and give visual impression.

Opinions:

- Map Length: 45 minutes MAX
- I played without SPM, I do not recommend anyone do this, there are no form of checkpoints or anything. You die 2 minutes from the end, bck to the start you go. There are also lots of jumps, 1 after the other, which do not kill you if you fall, but require you rejump 5 minutes worth of jumping.
- I failed to load this with the CoDJumper mod, it crashed twice. No idea why, music was playing from map, but map was not loaded.
- There are many places you can become stuck and would require to /kill or use a saved position.
- Difficulty ranges from very easy, to difficult, to puzzling, the change of difficulty is more random than progressive, with hard jumps followed by easy at points.
- Invisible Walls, Invisible kill triggers, mazes and cylinder jumps (All of which I hate).
- Pointless GAP Jump room (why every map needs one, I do not know).

That was most of the bads, so here is some goods:
- Some very unique things I have not seen before (i.e. Drowning)
- Some areas are nicely designed and well thought out.
- Can be fun and the size should be fine for server usage (if the map allows mods to load).

3.75/5 in current state (Not quite good enough to be a 4, but definitely better than a 3) :)

This is only a demo and I think the other 2 parts are more interesting and the final map will get 5 :D
The demo max lenght is 30 min for intermediate jumpers, the testers records are about 15 minutes
When I said 1 hour gameplay i meant the whole map not the demo
The save position mod is 100 % working - many ppl have tested it on my private server with codjumper mod and no one had any problems. This error should be from you.
There are also lots of jumps, 1 after the other, which do not kill you if you fall, but require you rejump 5 minutes worth of jumping.
lol why don't you tell me a map which s designed to be played withou save mod
What happens if you fall on svt_stronghold for e.g. or whatever other jump map?
There arent places where you can get stuck... if you have found some just show me...
The demo is easy version - all jumps are easy, less than 220. Where did you see hard jumps?
Kill triggers are VERY few and there's only 1 maze with invible walls (some ppl as me and Atze for e.g. like mazes)
The gaps are CROUCH gaps (Atze loved them) , not just ordinary ones, but I see you havent even tried them

But thanks for the review, I may improve some things... :)
