Mp_to_the_moon_2 out of memory

Post by Vartazian » February 18th, 2012, 10:17 pm

hi, i've been working on a map as most people know. Everything was working fine. Advanced way is pretty much done, i had added basic way, and then added intermediate way, and the map is getting very large, but now after adding the intermediate way, when i compile BSP, i get "Out of memory" after sitting for about 6 minutes it gets to 50-70% of compile light and says that. Any ways i could fix this? is this related to radiant, or my own computer limitations?

Check if you have any leaks in your skybox, if light escapes and travels forever, it'll keep compiling it and waste alot of memory.

the skybox is fine.. but is HUGE... maybe if i make the skybox shorter...the secret will be found alot easier... but i guess its worth it if compiles at all.

You need to make you map efficiently. The tutorial is no longer 100% accurate, but the level of importance for has never changed.

I read the tutorial and went through the whole map and made tons of things details, and when i compile it gets to 80.1% while rendering light in BSP. Is anyone out there who has 6gb or more of RAM willing to compile my map for me? its not finished yet, but you would have to compile the map around 5x for me probably. I watched the PF usage when compiling, and its at 530 at idle, then goes to 1.6gb when compile starts, and every second after it goes up .01 gb Towards the 80% of compile it goes up to 2.5- 2.6 gb RAM used, then when it says out of memory, it spikes up to max for a split second.. i don't know. 1500 brushes in total including 120 entities. Doesn't seem all that much to render for a quad core q9550 and 4gb or ram.. but i could be wrong. Anyone willing for me to give them my .map file and render all of this out for me?

try to use caulk texture applied to faces of a brush that would not be visible to the player

Good point, caulk texture is ignored when compiling light, and should be used as much as possible.

Is there a BSP leak in the compile log?
