[Solved] - FATAL ERROR: couldn't load material '$default'

Post by Rezil » January 19th, 2008, 3:08 pm

I'm having a problem getting radiant to work. I can't even enter it. Every time I doubleclick the project file(the thing you need to do the first time you run cod4radiant), it crashes and reports an error:

FATAL ERROR: couldn't load material '$default'
GetLastError() = 0
An unrecoverable error has occured. blabla exit...

Any ideas what might cause this problem? I removed all the mods from my mods folder, the main folder is empty, the raw map(where the materials are) is in the call of duty 4 folder. I vaguely remember something simmilar with cod2radiant but I forgot how I fixed it that time.

Help would be appreciated. :)

maybe you should say how you solved it so if any other people have that issue they know how to solve it as well.

Yeah, the problem was with the iw_01.iwd file(where the default texture is). All I had to do was copy the same file from the DVD into main and it worked.

A bit old topic, but I recently installed Mod Tools and I'm getting the same error. I've tried different things (including your fix) but nothing worked. Help please!

EDIT: Quick fixed. After 3 hours of googling and testing different solutions, I got it working.

Solution was to move out the shortcut to CoD4Radiant to the main CoD4 folder (where the MP + SP exe files are) and open it from there.

You can once again lock the topic, hehe.

I'm getting this error;

FATAL ERROR: couldn't load material '$default'
GetLastError() = 0

And I found this post in Google. How did you fix this problem Rezil?
